CRITERIA
SoMa Literary Review accepts previously unpublished work for consideration.
SoMa Literary Review is a geo-centric publication. We focus on creative work related to San Francisco and the Bay Area. SoMa (South of Market) is San Francisco's edgy, urban frontier. Publication preference is given to work that reflects the SoMa attitude.
We also publish authors with connections to SoMa, San Francisco and the Bay Area.
HOW TO SUBMIT
If you have work that fits our criteria and you would like to see it published in SoMa Literary Review please send it via e-mail to
submit@somalit.com.
Send in ASCII type within the body of the E-mail. No attachments will be read.
Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for response.
Include in your submission any and all author information you would feel appropriate to share with others.
RIGHTS AND CONDITIONS
We require "First Serial and Electronic Rights." We hold these rights for the month when the work appears, then publication rights revert back to the author. We also hold the right to keep the work in our archives for the duration of the site.
If the piece is first published on SoMa Literary Review, we ask this be acknowledged if subsequently re-published.
All work is subject to editing.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PUBLICATION
In the WORD section we are most interested in reviews of literary material, experiments with writing, opinions outside of the mainstream, book excerpts and poetry.
The PLAY section features short stories. These should be no more than 3,000 words.
The HERE section contains fiction and non-fiction descriptively set in actual SoMa, San Francisco and Bay Area locations.
For site navigation purposes, it is possible one story could appear in multiple sections of SoMa Literary Review.
PAYMENT
SoMa Literary Review is a non-profit organization, supported by the hard work of volunteers and donations. As a result, we are unable to offer monetary compensation at this time.
