Will We?

By Bryan Stillman

Nestled in a quiet café,
We touch the windowpane.
Oh! Our palms drop away,
Damp with pensive rain.

Warm pastries rise within the hushed intimacy,
Cups on walls wait fastidiously
As precious tables clutch tight to books and tea,
Who’s coming for me?

Will we grow beyond this gray day?
Will we see past this abstract bite?
The door opens with little to say.
The knowing replies remain out of sight.

Nestled in a quiet café,
One love to feign.
Oh! Our hearts rise away
To close the door, the pain.
