The Movement of Turtles

By Evelyn Posamentier

you left
a doll's limb on the coffee table.
then you flew away like a bird
to a tropical island in the sea.
your kingdom calls me, michelle.

what did you think
when you opened your pack & unfolded
the doll, winging away to what was
out of your control.
a leg was gone.

before you came to visit me
i checked the weather on yahoo
& noted the sunny pictures smirking on the internet
a square with a yellow sun
on the day we would walk through the haight.

in golden gate park
i tricked you into a snapshot with turtles
in front of the museum.
together we will move into
the next one thousand years.
