better woman

By Téa June

What are little girls made of?

No way to be sure, love.
The proof
is in the pudding

Stir the generosity;
Dash in the ferocity.
Hope against mal-atrocity;
Whisk up the velocity.

What are grown women made of?
She won’t tell you,
the elements only separate
under fire.
The good ones,
Liars.

I owe my happiness
to a better woman
than I used to be –

I wish her the luck
that I had,
to be aided by someone
who knows her own need.
