All true love

By Robert S. O'Brien

The deep swells on the outer banks of a dead love
roll forever into a future damned
by vows remembered
that are as dangerous to sail over
as submerged masts or shallow water above rock shoals
at the edge of an endless sea.
Come back! I cry into torn winds
and I hear my voice among the seagulls
mindlessly echo, Come Back!
Come back!
ends in death
