A little bit of salt

By Radhika Sharma

A little bit of salt can make a dish dare
A little more salt can make it flare
Even more than that, can scare your tongue unaware
And more than that, at least I can’t bear

What nonsense she talks
You might wonder
Of course we all know this
You might mutter

Well if we do
Why then do we coat our tiny little tongues
With all that extra salt residue?
And then that burden becomes too hard to bear
And we are forced to unload what we think is not our share

So the next time you reach out and shake and smile
Put that shaker away awhile
A little bit of control is all that you need
A little less salt is all that we need.
